With its slender body, long bushy tail and incredible agility in jumping from branch to branch, the red squirrel is the acrobat of the woods. It stocks up on seeds and acorns, which it hides in small holes dug in the ground or in natural cavities. However, it does not always remember where it has put them, and it is precisely this forgetfulness that helps the forest to regenerate: it contributes to the dispersal of seeds from which new trees will grow. It is a diurnal animal, active mainly in the morning and late afternoon. During these hours, with a little luck and a lot of discretion, it can be observed among the foliage, gnawing on a hazelnut or running among the branches. Watching it is always a spectacle that cheers us up and brings back childhood emotions.
